AYDIN. In Aydın, fig growers are complaining about low prices. Exporters remain cautious. The problem of elevated mycotoxin levels persists.

Uproar in Aydın

Fig growers in Aydın are in an uproar over the prices. Due to rising costs combined with a fall in fig prices – which have dropped by almost half compared with last year – growers are suffering significant losses of income. Whilst figs were still selling for over TRY 200/kg last year, the price has fallen to TRY 100-150/kg this year. Growers say they are struggling to cover their costs and are calling for government support. Some, however, argue that market prices are determined by supply and demand, not by sentiment.
