Dried figs: preparations for new crop underway

AYDIN. Attention has has shifted towards the new season for dried figs. Aflatoxin and weather conditions will play a decisive role for the new crop. Growers are busy preparing the trees for the harvest, which is hard work.

Hard work pays off

Farmers in Aydin have started the difficult preparations for the season. For them it involves hard work to prepare the trees for harvesting in the scorching summer heat. The trees also require quite a bit of care as ploughing and hoeing improve yields and quality. Another issue is that tractors and heavy machinery do not work in Aydin's mountainous areas meaning that all labour is carried out with man and animal power.
