AYDIN. Despite ambituous targets, the start to the new export season for dried figs has been rather disappointing for suppliers in Turkey. Bigger sizes are far too expensive.

Big figs way too expensive

In Turkey, the new season has started off very slowly and the market is still chaotic. Most exporters are only issuing prices for type 3 dried figs and smaller varieties as the prices for big sizes are way too high. Offers are only provided if required as fig sizes are scarce and farmers are withholding these volumes. The prices for types 5-6 range at TRY 230-240/kg and for type 7 at TRY 215-230/kg. Quotations for bigger sizes have risen to TRY 275-300/kg, whereas prices initially ranged at TRY 180/kg at the start of the season.
