NEW DELHI. Indian fenugreek farmers are sowing significantly smaller areas this year. This is having an impact on production levels. EU countries have reduced their imports by 44%.

Significant decline in cultivation in Madhya Pradesh

India’s fenugreek production is expected to be lower than last year. In the three main growing states, farmers have reduced their acreage, which is now reflected in the production figures. Nationwide, the acreage fell from 130,000 ha to 115,000 ha. In Madhya Pradesh, the largest producing state, the acreage declined by 14% to 55,400 ha; in Rajasthan, it fell by 12% to 41,750 ha, whilst Gujarat recorded a more moderate decline from 18,600 to 17,500 ha.

Production estimates are also correspondingly low
