Flaxseed: 200,000 ha in Kazakhstan cannot be saved

NUR-SULTAN. Last week, the Asia Grains&Oils Conference took place in Kazakhstan. Market expert Evgeny Karabanov from the Kazakh Grain Union (KGU) presented the current estimates for the Kazakh Flaxseed crop of 2021.

Massive crop slump in Kazakhstan

As Evgeny Karabanov, grain and oilseed expert of the Kazakh Grain Union (KGU), explained in his presentation, Kazakh flaxseed production has declined significantly this year. An estimated 200,000 ha of the cultivated area fell victim to unfavourable weather conditions such as persistent drought, but also pest infestation. Originally, more than 1.26 million ha were sown for flaxseed, but according to current estimates by the KGU, only a good 1 million ha were harvested.
