Flaxseed: 50% loss since 2015

OTTAWA. This week the Canadian Ministry of Agriculture published its October report on the two most recent flaxseed seasons. Various corrections were made against last month.

 

Canada is forced to face facts
Despite larger acreages, the Ministry was regularly required to downwardly adjust its  crop estimates in recent months. The 29% decrease in yield to 1.22 mt/ha has reduced the 2017 production to around 500,000 mt – a 15% decline compared to last year. Production has nearly halved since 2015.  

Taking into account imports and last year’s surplus stock, there will be around 700,000 mt available in 2017/18 – at least 21% less than in the last season. Exports will remain unchanged at 50

SOFIA/KYIV. The US Department of Agriculture has drastically reduced its production estimates compared to its November report. In particular, the forecasts for Ukraine have been adjusted downwards. However, the result could have been even lower.
