NUR-SULTAN/OTTAWA. Kazakhstan's flaxseed exports are expected to surge this year. China is the key driver. Canada is, meanwhile, reckoning with the largest production in six years.

Production 16% lower in Kazahstan

Evgeniy Karabanov, oilseed expert at the Kazakh Grain Union, estimates Kazakhstan's 2020/2021 production at 850,500 mt (incl. dockage). This nearly is a 16% decline on 2019/2020. Issue is that the area harvested is much smaller. Yields also range lower at 0.7 mt/ha.
