LODZ. This year’s outlook for Russia is anything but promising. Processors from Poland are now traveling in Russia to secure sufficient supplies in time.

Negotiations for new crop deliveries are, however, rendered rather difficult due to the uncertain outlook and heavy rains. The high degree of humidity is increasingly prompting the farmers to use pesticides.

Exports are booming

Exporters in Russia are, however, highly satisfied with 2016/17. They shipped as much as 30,200 mt in May. Contrary to this only 25,700 mt were shipped in April and as little as 21,600 mt in May 2016. According to UkrAgroConsult Russia has so far exported a total of 509,600 mt this season, 37% more than last year. More than half of the shipments were destined for the EU and with 188,550 mt Turkey has become the second largest buyer.
