Flaxseed: new crop significantly cheaper ASTANA/OTTAWA. Flaxseed prices in Kazakhstan are coming under further pressure. Delivery prices are falling to a three-year low. Lower yields are easing the pressure on the Canadian flaxseed market. Market players are speculating that Kazakhstan will export large volumes to the EU.

Prices at a three-year low

In early September, the Kazakh Grain Union (KGU) published its latest crop forecast for the 2026/27 flaxseed season, citing data from the Kazakh Statistics Service. Due to heat and drought in some regions, yields this year are significantly lower, with the result that the Kazakh flaxseed crop is expected to rise by only an estimated 7% to 1.45 million mt, despite the significantly larger acreage (+41% year-on-year to 1.904 million hectares).
