Flaxseed: drought in parts of Kazakhstan

...estimates in Canada remain unchanged from May. While the area sown falls short of the initial estimate of 450,000 hectares, acreage ranges nominally higher than last year at 381,000 hectares. Estimates still state that the area harvested and yields will be higher than in 2019/2020. This should prompt a 9.3% rise in production to 530,000 metric tonnes. Average prices are expected to range around 3% lower at CAD 0.51 per kg in the new season. Raw seeds are currently trading at CAD 533 per metric tonne EXW Manitoba.

Prices fail to rise in Eastern Europe
Although a shortage of raw seeds in export quality is being reported in Kazakhstan and in Russia, prices have continued to fall. Despite some parts in northern Kazakhstan being hit by drought, the reference prices for new arrivals have remained firm at EUR 0.32-0.33 per kg FCA. In Russia, the farmgate prices for the new crop meanwhile range at EUR 0.33-0.335 EUR/kg FCA Siberia. In how far the lack of rain will impact yields remains to be seen.
