Flaxseed: EU imports at 5-year high

OTTAWA/ASTANA. According to the latest data from the European Commission, flaxseed imports from Kazakhstan to the EU have doubled year-on-year. Canadian traders face fierce competition from Kazakhstan and Russia, but can compete with golden flaxseed.

Golden flaxseed from Canada is in demand

High domestic availability this season and strong competition from Kazakhstan and Russia are currently ensuring a stable flaxseed market in Canada. Western Europe sources its shipments mainly from Kazakhstan, while Russia is exporting record quantities of flaxseed to China. However, golden flaxseed is an exception, as the scarce supply on the Eurasian continent is prompting European buyers to meet their demand in Canada. Experts at Rayglen Commodities believe that prices have little room for upward movement for the time being
