OTTAWA/ASTANA. Reduced acreage in Canada is expected to lead to a further decline in production this year. Meanwhile, the EU has increased its flaxseed imports by 23% so far this season.

Decline in cultivation in Canada

The experts at Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada have adjusted their cultivation forecast for the coming season, but there are no deviations from the previous report. Production is still estimated at 250,000 mt, which should bring total availability for the 2024/2025 season to 380,000 mt. This would be just under a quarter less than in the current season and yet the average flaxseed price is estimated to be around 3.5% lower at CAD 550/mt.
