Flaxseed: geopolitical tensions weaken demand

OTTAWA/MOSCOW. Lower availability in the Canadian flaxseed market is currently meeting with subdued demand. The supply situation in the USA and the EU offer good opportunities for profitable trade transactions this year.

Analysts expect crop growth in Russia

In the Canadian market, supply and demand are balanced. Many buyers are only buying for prompt requirements; very few are interested in long-term contracts. Despite lower yields, smaller acreages caused Canadian flaxseed production to fall by 2.9% year-on-year to 265,000 mt, and this season's total stocks of 440,000 mt are also at their lowest level for a long time.
