ASTANA/OTTAWA. Kazakhstan’s flaxseed exports this season are significantly higher than last year, thanks in no small part to China. The Kazakh crop is said to be in good condition - quite unlike Canada, where a massive decline is expected.

Good crop prospects in Kazakhstan

In Kazakhstan, flaxseed prices have risen, but at the same time exports have also increased. According to Kazakhstan's statistics service, exports between September 2022 and June 2023 totalled 502,800 mt, a whopping 31% increase on the same period last year. In June this year, another 45,500 mt of flaxseed was shipped overseas, up from 36,400 mt the month before. The main buyers are currently China (27,200 mt), Belgium (10,700 mt), Afghanistan (3,400 mt) and Poland (1,400 mt).
