Flaxseed: Kazakhstan is looking to expand

ASTANA/LODZ. Kazakh farmers can make attractive profits with the cultivation of flaxseed, even if the prices are cheaper than ever in Eastern Europe due to production increases.

 

More flaxseed, less grain
This is why grain production is set to be cut to make space for flaxseed and sunflower seeds over the next five years. Kazakh farmers primarily produce flaxseeds for the export market and have not yet focussed on expanding their network of domestic processing plants. In 2017/18, however, around 115.000 mt are to be processed in domestic facilities according to analysts of the APK-Inform Agency. This is an increase of 28% over the same period last year.
