Flaxseed: Kazakhstan wants to grow more oilseeds in 2025

ASTANA/OTTAWA. The flaxseed market is currently characterised primarily by dwindling stocks and firmer prices. Golden flaxseed in particular is becoming increasingly expensive. The EU has increased its flaxseed imports from Kazakhstan by 91% compared to last year.

Larger acreage in Kazakhstan

Following a massive drop in flaxseed shipments to the EU from Russia due to the import duties imposed last year, there has been a significant increase in deliveries from countries such as Ukraine, Canada and, above all, Kazakhstan in recent months.

The 2024/2025 season is now drawing to a close and export-quality stocks are shrinking rapidly. Many suppliers will not be able to fulfil new orders until the 2025 crop is available. However, according to market players, Kazakh flaxseed farmers have not even started sowing for this yea
