ASTANA/OTTAWA. Flaxseed exporters in Kazakhstan report physical blemishes in this year's crop. Traders in Canada are hoping for a rise in demand in Europe, in spite of low supplies.

Irregular colouring

Brown flaxseed is trading firm, yet prices may vary depending on origin and supplier. Exporters in Kazakhstan are, in addition, stating that the colourig is partly irregular in this year's crop, which is caused by a higher degree of moisture. Local prices are currently moving upwards. 

The European spot market prices for brown flaxseed, 99.95%, are holding relatively firm at EUR 0.82/kg DDP Germany, whereas golden flaxseed in the same purity has witnessed quite a rise in the last few weeks. Prices differ between EUR 1,050/mt FCA Pola
