OTTAWA/ASTANA. Canadian farmers have once again achieved good yields this year. High carry-over stocks from last year provide an additional supply buffer. Prices for Canadian flaxseed remain at their lowest levels in years.

Impressive yields in Canada

Canadian farmers have taken their time with this year’s flaxeed harvest, prioritising the harvesting of other agricultural commodities from the fields. As expected, yields did not match last year’s figure of 1.824 mt/ha. According to the latest data from Statistics Canada, the average yield per hectare this year stood at 1.499 mt, which is still a respectable result. Nevertheless, despite the larger acreage, production totalled just 385,797 mt, representing a 15% decline compared with last year.
