Flaxseed: prices vary widely

ASTANA/OTTAWA. Canadian traders report higher demand. There are significant price differences in the European flaxseed market. The EU has increased its flaxseed imports from third countries by 16% this season.

Spot market prices often lower

With the exception of limited availability of golden flaxseed, there is no supply shortage in the flaxseed market this season. Nevertheless, prices remain at a relatively high level. Initially, tariffs on flaxseed imports from Russia into the EU meant that origins such as Kazakhstan did not need to lower their prices significantly to remain competitive. Now, the rise in oil prices due to the war in Iran means that traders can scarcely imagine what impact this might have on prices in the future.
