ASTANA/BRUSSELS. Despite record crops in Kazakhstan, prices have recently increased again. EU countries imported around 10% more flaxseed from third countries this season than in the previous year.

Prices are rising

Kazakh flaxseed production is expected to reach a new record in the 2025/26 season. Referring to official statistics, experts from APK-Inform reported that around 1.35 million mt of flaxseed were harvested in Kazakhstan on 1.35 million hectares in the current season, which estimates the average yield at 1 mt/ha. According to official statistics, the crop in 2024 yielded 760,000 mt from 873,000 ha (0.87 mt/ha), while production in 2023 amounted to only 362,000 mt. Although 726,000 ha were sown this year, the average yield was only 0.5 mt/ha.
