Flaxseed: Record exports despite small crop

KIEV/LODZ. Between September 2017 and May 2018, Ukrainian suppliers exported large quantities of flaxseed by-products, especially considering that the 2017/18 crop was halved to 45,000 mt (2016: 91,000 mt).

 

Export goal: 22,000 mt of flaxseed
Good demand from abroad ensured that Ukrainian processing plants were kept busy, however. Although quantities could not exceed those of the previous year due to the smaller crop, a few monthly records were still possible.

In the first nine months of the 2017/18 season, Ukrainian exporters shipped 9,700 mt of flaxseed cakes overseas, down 13% from the same period last year, but in October, December, and April this year, exports were at their best ever for the respective months. In addition, 5,600 mt of flaxseed
