Flaxseed: record yields in Canada

OTTAWA/ASTANA. Canadian flaxseed farmers have achieved record yields this season. However, due to the smaller acreage, the results are still far from a record crop. Kazakhstan increased its exports by 211% in the first two months of the new season.

Canadian crop better than expected

Canada's flaxseed crop has turned out much better than initially expected. The yield estimate published at the beginning of December was 1,824 mt/ha, which is an absolute record, while the 5-year average (2020-2024) is only 1,271 mt/ha. With an acreage of 250,900 ha, this year's flaxseed production will thus amount to 454,461 mt – almost 200,000 mt more than last year.
