Flaxseed: new records for Kazakhstan

ASTANA. Kazakhstan’s flaxseed exports once again performed well in April. Experts are forecasting a record sowing area for 2026/27. Russian Railways (RZD) has increased transit charges for shipments to and from the Baltic states and to Finland.

Export volumes break the magic barrier

Kazakhstan is setting all-time export records this season. According to data from the Kazakh customs authority, 116,800 mt of flaxseed were shipped overseas in April 2026; while this represents a 7.3% decline compared with March 2026, monthly exports rose by a substantial 229% year-on-year (April 2025: 35,500 mt). Key export markets such as China (+568% to 45,400 mt), Belgium (+148% to 44,100 mt), Poland (+150% to 12,000 mt) and Afghanistan (+522% to 5,600 mt) recorded significantly higher imports in April this year, whereas Uz
