Flaxseed: tariffs help Kazakhstan achieve record exports

ASTANA/OTTAWA. Current tariffs are making flaxseed shipments from Russia to the EU increasingly unattractive. Kazakh exporters are benefiting from this and achieved record results in September.

Kazakhstan registers record exports

Rainy weather this year delayed the flaxseed harvest in Kazakhstan. Nevertheless, suppliers were able to achieve new record exports in September. In the first month of the new 2025/2026 season, flaxseed exports from Kazakhstan amounted to 62,900 mt, representing an increase of 281.2% over last year. Experts at the Kazakh Grain Union attribute this to the 20% import duty imposed by the EU this year on flaxseed shipments from Russia. The majority of shipments are made to China.
