NEW DELHI. Since the beginning of October 2016, there is a stabilisation at a low level to be felt, after the price for ginger products had dropped for nine months straight.

Since the beginning of the year, at publication of the crop data, the price for ginger has lost about 20% in value. The high price level of the past two years was the reason for many farmers in India, as well as China, to go into the ginger production in 2015/2016. The logical consequence of this is the great surplus, primarily from China, which puts the price under pressure. Looking at the price development (table 1), it becomes clear that prices have calibrated themselves to a low level since the third quarter of 2016, and are now showing a sideways trend. The price fluctuations seen in the display are due to exchange rate fluctuations.

BRUSSELS. Although EU importers spent less on spices in 2025 than in the record year of 2024, the import value is still quite high as official statistics show. Record amounts were, in fact, spent on cardamom, fenugreek and spice mixtures, saffron and turmeric. Pepper tops the chart. While the year-to-year import value has risen for cinnamon, cloves and mace, the opposite is the case for capsicum, ginger and vanilla, cumin, nutmeg and coriander and curry.
