ORDU. Although demand in Europe has revived to a certain extent, big buyers such as Ferrero still prefer to wait for the official crop estimates.

Diverging opinions

Traders are reckoning with a crop estimate of 760,000 mt, whereas the Turkish Ministry of Agriculture is rather likely to issue an estimate of 660,000 mt. The market is waiting and prices are stable. It remains to be seen in how far the TMO will conduct purchases. Not even Ferrero has issued any purchase offers yet. In considering the carry over stock supplies should reach a level not seen since the record crop year of 2008 (>800,000 mt of in shells).

Turkey dominates the market

Buyers are anxiously viewing the crop results in Turkey, which is the leading producer by far. The quality of the crops in other producing countries, such as Georgia or Azerbaijan, is no match to Turkey. In terms of quantity these countries would even need to produce the tenfold. Turkey is set to continue to dominate the market for some time to come.
