ORDU. Some participants were enraged at the figures presented for hazelnuts at last week’s International Nut and Dried Fruit Council Congress in Majorca. Buyers are keen to seize the moment.

Fierce debate over production and supply

Last week’s INC Congress stirred some arguments regarding Turkish hazelnuts. While the figures presented by exporters suggest that the frostbite in April created a damage of 159,000 mt, some participants disagree. According to recent estimates Turkey will produce 609,000 mt of in-shell hazelnuts. Although this figure is 22% down on last year’s 785,000 mt, expectation is that the new season will start off with carry-in supplies of 150,000 mt meaning that enough hazelnuts should be available.
