Hazelnuts: delays are very well possible

ORDU/REUS. With TMO and free market prices diverging for hazelnuts the market is anxiously waiting for growers to act. Anticipation is that new crop arrivals may be delayed. Production estimates have changed for Italy.

TMO vs. free market

Atakan Akça, head of the Altınordu Agricultural Chamber, has criticised the large differences in market prices with offers for in-shell hazelnuts ranging at TRY 170-200/kg. Agreement is that prices will only settle in the coming weeks after the start of the TMO physical purchases on 24 August. As the TMO purchasing prices of TRY 250-255/kg range higher than the current free market rates, the industry is watching with great interest how growers will respond.
