Hazelnuts: palpable suspense grips market

ORDU/REUS. Palpable suspense has gripped the market for hazelnuts as weather conditions have turned unpredictable in Turkey. Istanbul major Ekrem İmamoğlu’s arrest has added further chaos. The International Nut and Dried Fruit Council (INC) has issued revised estimates.

Heightened risk of frost damages

In Turkey, the market is holding its breath over the highly unpredictable weather conditions. On Sunday, record high temperatures of 34C (93F) were witnessed in Ordu. On Tuesday, temperatures dropped to 10C (50F). At present the hazelnut orchards are covered with snow and frost-related damages may well occur. Not only are stakeholders waiting to see how the weather will play out but it will also take some time to assess any damages that may occur.
