ORDU. Ferrero has issued surprise bids for hazelnuts. The harvest is nearly finished in Turkey. Assessing the supply and demand situation is quite a challenge this year.

Market giant raised the stakes

On Thursday, Ferrero hit the market with bids that have sparked quite a bit of speculation. Previously, the expectations concerning quality by the confectionary giant as well as by Turkey’s grain board the TMO slowed intake with the latter offering TRY 130/kg for Levant quality nuts and TRY 132/kg for Giresun quality nuts. Now Ferrero has issued much higher prices of TRY 252.50/kg for raw 11-13 mm nuts and of TRY 257.50/kg for raw 13-15 mm nuts in C quality. For A/B quality nuts Ferrero will pay a bonus of TRY 5/kg.
