ORDU. In the Black Sea Coast, the brown marmorated stink bug has had an impact on this year’s hazelnut crop. Exporters are having cold feet. Ferrero will set the agenda in the coming weeks. Recent export data show an excessive rise.

Brown marmorated stink bug impact

With harvesting having started in the Black Sea coastal area first insights on the condition of the crop are emerging. Reports show that the brown marmorated stink bug has impacted the crop in different ways. While the bug has mainly damaged kernels that are smaller than 11 mm in the Eastern Black Sea area, kernels over 13 mm are mainly affected in the Western Black Sea area.

Local growers also mention that there is a larger quantity of small kernels this year, which will lead to higher prices for big kernels in size 13-15 m
