ORDU/BRUSSELS. Curious speculations on hazelnuts abound in Turkey. Growers are feeding expectations for the next crop. The USA is still gaining fast in the EU as recent import statistics show.

Speculations are running wild in Turkey as to the reasons behind the current price developments. Naturally, the 30% hike in the net monthly minimum wage to TRY 22,104 (USD 630) and increasing costs are highlighted as price drivers for a whole range of food commodities. Yet, other actions are also having an impact on hazelnuts.
