Mustard seeds: Canada is returning to old form

OTTAWA/KIEV. Motivated by last year’s higher prices growers in Canada have increased acreage for yellow and brown mustard seeds by far more than previously expected.

 

31% rise in acreage
In the July report issued by the Canadian Ministry of Agriculture, the acreage for mustard production has been adjusted upwards to 204,000 hectares for 2018/19, which equates to an increase in production of almost 31% when compared to 2017/18. About 75% of Canada's mustard seed crop is grown in Saskatchewan, with Alberta and Manitoba being other important growing regions.
