OTTAWA/ASTANA. In Canada, the outlook for the new crop is rather mixed. Things have also turned out differently for mustard seeds in Kazakhstan.

Mixed outlook in Canada

Harvesting has started in Canada with average yields, which vary considerably depending on location. As Rayglen Commodities report the heat in the weeks leading up to the start of the harvest may have an impact. According to the August report issued by Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada, the average yield for 2026/2027 is estimated at 0.87 mt/ha, which is 10% lower than in 2025/2026. Further revisions may occur in the coming weeks. Market activities are still relatively calm. Prices have remained unchanged for weeks and currently stand at CAD 0.36–0.37/lb for yellow mustard seeds. Buyers have also been rather cautious of late.

According to Statistics Canada, the country exported mustard seeds worth USD 51.62 million in the first half of 2026, which is 13% less than the USD 58.99 million noted in the same period last year. At USD 30.83 million (down 5% on last year) the USA accounted for just under half of this amount, followed by Belgium with USD 4.93 million (down 48%) and Japan with USD 2.29 million (down 31%).
