Mustard seeds: Mixed trends in the Ukraine

OTTAWA/KIEV. US demand for Canadian mustard seeds was lower than expected in 2017/18. In addition, the suppliers in the Ukraine are reducing their prices as there has been little interest in buying.

Production in Canada is set to recover
As opposed to previous expectations, the mustard seed exports from Canada fell by 7.3% to 115,000 mt in 2017/18, due in part to declining shipments to the US market. Due to the decline in production (-48% to 122,000 mt), the average price has nevertheless risen by around 17% when compared to last year.

Although the production in Canada is not expected to return to its previous form in 2018/19, the Ministry of Agriculture still expects a rise of 60%. The increase in acreage should lead to falling prices and an average expo

BRUSSELS. Although EU importers spent less on spices in 2025 than in the record year of 2024, the import value is still quite high as official statistics show. Record amounts were, in fact, spent on cardamom, fenugreek and spice mixtures, saffron and turmeric. Pepper tops the chart. While the year-to-year import value has risen for cinnamon, cloves and mace, the opposite is the case for capsicum, ginger and vanilla, cumin, nutmeg and coriander and curry.
