FRANKFURT. Monitoring of the oilseed sector with day-to-day price comparisons.

Although many pumpkin seed suppliers in China were reluctant to sell, reports over a sharp rise in Shine Skin sowing coulped with subdued demand have prompted them to act more aggressively. Warehouses need to be cleared to make space for the new crop, not least because of the storage costs. Prices have dropped drastically since last week.

Reports on trading activities differ greatly in the sunflower seed market as shift in demand has been observed. While some traders report that there are only few enquiries for spot purchases and that release orders are being postponed, other traders report a sharp rise on release orders. The issue in Germany, for instance, is that demand has shifted away from local bakeries to supermarkets and industrial bakeries have stepped up production to meet retail demand. Depending on the supplier, Bakery kernels are currently trading in a range of EUR 0.720-0.755 per kg DDP Germany, depending on supplier.
