ISTANBUL/TEHRAN/SACRAMENTO. Drought is a serious issue for Turkey’s pistachio industry. Aflatoxin remains a problem in Iran. Demand is very high for US pistachios.

Drought quite a problem in Turkey

Growers in Turkey are very much worried about the impact of the climate crisis on future production. At the Pistachio Producer Unions meeting held in Southeastern Turkey on 3 December it was highlighted that the ongoing drought witnessed over the last two years is impacting orchard health and medium-term supply. Since the region accounts for as much as 95% of Turkey’s pistachio production growers are calling for stronger state support to maintain a steady output.
