FRESNO. US pistachio exports continue to soar. But prices are also trending upwards.

June exports up by 20%

The final quarter of the US pistachio season is continuing the strong export trend seen in recent months. In June 2026, a total of 90.03 million lbs of pistachios, both in-shell and shelled, were shipped domestically and overseas; in the same month of the previous year, the figure was just 74.9 million lbs. While domestic shipments rose by 8% year-on-year to 23.1 million lbs, exports increased by as much as 25% to 66.9 million lbs. The main buyers were Turkey (+456% to 8.8 million lbs), Hong Kong (4.8 million lbs), China (+5% to 4.8 million lbs) and India (-8% to 4.7 million lbs), as well as Germany (-52% to 4.7 million lbs), Spain (+7% to 4.4 million lbs) and Jordan (+4,575% to 4.1 million lbs).

Total exports remain well above last year's level

Overall, US pistachio shipments this season are also around 20% higher than last year's level. Between September 2025 and June 2026, a total of 998.2 million lbs of pistachios, both in-shell and shelled, were shipped domestically and overseas; at this time last year, the figure was just 832.8 million lbs. Domestic shipments, at 207.7 million lbs, are only around 3% higher than in the same period last year, whereas exports have risen by around a quarter to 790.5 million lbs.

Exports within the Americas rose by 19% to 44.7 million lbs; the main markets here are Canada and Mexico, with 18.5 million lbs (-9% year-on-year) and 18.8 million lbs (+39% year-on-year) respectively.

US pistachio shipments to Europe have risen by 21% to 297.7 million lbs so far this season. Germany is not only by far the most important buyer within Europe, but, with imports of 92.6 million lbs (+7% year-on-year), it even ranks second among the top 10 markets worldwide. It is followed by Spain (+21% to 46 million lbs) and Italy (+46% to 36 million lbs). US pistachios, raw and shelled, are currently being offered on the European spot market at a price of EUR 17.91/kg FCA Poland, which is EUR 0.15/kg more than in mid-June.

Asia has had to cede its position as the most important sales market this season to Europe. Total shipments to Asia so far amount to 281 million lbs (+9% year-on-year). One reason for this trend is the significantly lower shipments to China (-82% to 27.8 million lbs) – despite the fact that shipments to Vietnam have risen by 164% year-on-year to 121.7 million lbs.

Meanwhile, US exports to the Middle East and Africa rose by 86% to 162.2 million lbs, with particularly notable increases in shipments to Turkey (+141% to 61.3 million lbs), as well as to Jordan (+166% to 23.8 million lbs) and Saudi Arabia (+81% to 22.6 million lbs).

Australia/Oceania remains the smallest market, but here too shipments rose by 28% compared with the same period last year to 7.9 million lbs.
