Saffron: coronavirus restricts shipments

TEHRAN. The spread of the coronavirus continues to heavily impact shipments of saffron to China, Vietnam and Hong Kong. Market players in Iran are becoming increasingly concerned over the developments in the export market and in the domestic market.

Exports range well below expectations

The political economic situation in Iran has, in addition, restricted the purchase and consumption of saffron within the country. Prices have declined by 3%-4% in the domestic market since January. The decline in exports to destinations the Far East are weighing heavily on the market.
