Dates: economic backlash hits market
TEHRAN. The pandemic is certainly far from over and the economic backlash is felt in the date market. Domestic supplies are normally very much depleted at the start of Ramadan. Things are, however, different this year. Although around half the month of Ramadan is over, large inventories remain. The cold storage supplies in Bushehr Province give a hint as to how critical the situation may become.

Barberries: farmers adopt cautious approach
TEHRAN. Since barberries are considered a luxury product the farmers in Iran are particularly hard hit by the pandemic. Bearing last year’s experiences in mind they have adopted a much more cautious approach in selling new puffed barberry arrivals to the market. Price developments in the export market differ from prices in the domestic market.

AYDIN. Conditions in the growing areas are good and producers expect the trees to set fruit soon. Exports also continue to be very satisfactory.
