Walnuts: Germany ranks first for walnut imports

SACRAMENTO. The US walnut harvest has just begun and the market is looking forward to a record production. Meanwhile, the 2019/2020 export season ended with a noticeable deficit compared to last year.

Season ends with declining export results

Last season, 327,214 mt of US walnuts, in-shell and shelled, were delivered to domestic and foreign markets, which is a decrease of 8% compared to last year. Both domestic consumption and export demand declined by 5% to 96,392 mt and 9% to 230,822 mt respectively. In particular, shipments to the Asian and African regions were lower year-on-year, while the volume of exports to Europe and Central and South America increased.
