Hazelnuts: consignments weigh on willingness to take risks

ORDU. Market players estimate that more than half of this year's hazelnut production has alread arrived in the market. Traders, however, report that...

...the amount of hazelnuts on consignment is higher than usual. Some exporters are, therefore, reluctant to sell for fear of having to pay relatively high prices to growers if farmgate prices continue to rise. High risks are attributed to shipments in 2021, which suppliers prefer not to offer. Market players reckon that Ferrero may buy hazelnuts on consignment from other exporters to prevent having to act as a buyer in the free market. This would certainly explain the market giant's current withdrawn approach.
