OTTAWA/MOSCOW. Flaxseed prices are rapidly approaching a 10-year high in Canada. The prices on offer in Eastern Europe are also more expensive than they have been in years.

Rapid rise in prices

Agriculture and Agri-Food Canada still estimates this year's production at 552,000 mt, a 13.6% rise on last year. Coupled with carry-ins this season's supplies should amount to 626,000 mt. Prices are, however, mainly driven by developments in the Black Sea region and estimates for the average market price have risen from CAD 545/mt in September to CAD 570/mt in October. Farmgate prices have risen sharply in Manitoba and are quoted at CAD 562.57/mt (approx. EUR 360/mt). Rayglen Commodities states that prices are approaching a 10-year high. Brown
