Sesame seeds: exporters in India end trade relations with EU

NEW DELHI. Ethylene oxide residues have prompted product recalls throughout the EU and Switzerland. Recently issued import requirements for sesame seeds from India will have far-reaching consequences for the market.

Further recalls of sesame seed products

The ethylene oxide scandal is gaining pace throught the EU and Switzerland. Last week, the popular German snack manufacturer Lorenz Snack-World recalled various products containing sesame seeds. Discounter Aldi had previously recalled "Bio Kerne Mix" from the Partners in Bio GmbH in Austria, Switzerland and Germany. These are only two prominent instances in which food products containing sesame seeds potentially contaminated with ethylene oxide have been recalled.
