Cumin

Indian cumin farmers have begun sowing for the rabi crop, which are harvested in spring, but are reporting slow progress. So far, 168,000 ha have been sown, the average is around 400,000 ha at this time. Nevertheless, sowing should be completed in December. Market players expect sufficient overstock supplies, but only a limited quantity of these is suitable for export to the EU. Prices for grade A cumin are currently at USD 2,010/mt FOB India, which is USD 10/mt lower than last week's price.

Record amounts were, in fact, spent on cardamom, fenugreek and spice mixtures, saffron and turmeric. Pepper tops the chart. While the year-to-year import value has risen for cinnamon, cloves and mace, the opposite is the case for capsicum, ginger and vanilla, cumin, nutmeg and coriander and curry.
