Blue poppy seeds: 20% slump in exports

CHRUDIM/ANKARA. The export data for November issued by the Czech Statistical Office illustrates good and bad impulses for the poppy seed market.

Decline in shipments to Austria and Russia

November witnessed a drastic decline in shipments to the Czech Republic's main export destinations. Shipments to Austria and Russia declined by as much as 20% to 656 mt and 634 mt respectively in annual comparison. Shipments to Poland (+63% to 312 mt), Germany (+50% to 309 mt) and Slovakia (+16% to 263 mt) are, by contrast, up. Total November exports have only declined nominally by 6% to 2,474 mt.
