BEIJING. Freight charges have hit such high levels that pumpkin seed traders in China are now exclusively issuing FOB prices for shipments to Europe. It is simply too much of a risk to provide CFR prices. There is no sign that the situation may improve in the next few months.

Raw seed prices are firm

Demand for A grade shine skin kernels continues to be good, but leaves much to be desired for AA grade kernels. Farmgate prices for Shine Skins range firm at CNY 16.50-16.80/kg. For traders it is becoming increasingly difficult to obtain sufficient supplies of A grade Shine Skin kernels, which is driving them to offer more mixed products (50% A grade and 50% AA grade). The prices for both varieties are becoming more and more similar.

GWS kernels are also trading firm and drastic shifts are not to be expected any time soon
