CHRUDIM. What Czech poppy seed exports lacked at the beginning of the season was easily made up for by exports in recent months. In the meantime, however, market players are increasingly focusing on the new crop.

Exports make up for initial deficit

Monthly exports performed significantly better year-on-year, with 1,862 mt of poppy seeds exported from the Czech Republic in April 2021 alone, around 47% more than in the same month last year (April 2020: 1,267 mt). Russia (-13% to 539 mt) and Austria (+29% to 331 mt) remain the most important customer countries, but shipments to Poland (+336% to 314 mt) and the Netherlands (+673% to 185 mt) in particular increased significantly.

Overall, this season's exports (Aug-Apr 2020/2021) have grown by almost 10% to around 1,620 m
