Prunes: lower prices for Chilean goods

REUS/BRUSSELS. EU countries have increased their prune imports. Goods are available at lower prices on the European spot market. The INC’s production forecasts are positive.

According to the July issue of the Nutfruit Magazine, published by the International Nut and Dried Fruit Council, Chile has once again defended its position as the world’s largest producer of prunes this year. At around 83,000 mt, the output was 3% higher than last year’s level. Just 15% of the country’s total prune crop is exported fresh each year. In California, a 6% increase in output to 68,000 mt is also expected, whilst in Serbia production is set to rise by as much as 60% to 8,000 mt; in Argentina, however, only 15,000 m
