Pumpkin seeds: new season starts with no carry-over stocks

DALIAN. Stocks of Chinese pumpkin seeds have shrunk significantly and offer no buffer until the new crop will be available. At the same time, prices for the new crop continue to rise. Uncertainty regarding crop volume and quality persists.

Stocks largely depleted

The sharp decline in stock levels is the most important factor on the supply side of the Chinese pumpkin seed market this year. Whilst carry-over stocks in previous years stood at around 200,000 mt, national supplies currently amount to only around 60,000 mt, as a Chinese trader reported to the AUDITOR editorial team. With monthly demand standing at 15,000 mt for snacks and exports, stocks are likely to be almost depleted this month.
